Age Grading & Combined Event Scoring

Age Grading is an adjustment for a performance (time, height or distance) based on age – the older you are, the bigger the adjustment. The adjustment, known as an Age Grade Factor, is multiplied by the performance to get an Age Graded Performance so all times, heights or distances for each event by athletes from 20 to over 100 years old can be compared to each other! The Age Graded Performance is the equivalent to what the athlete would have done when they were in their 20s.

Meet the Athletes

Hi, I am Toine van Beckhoven, performing on track since age 13 and I never missed a single year. I was a top 10 performer overall in The Netherlands in the 400 metres hurdles and I bloomed relatively late: my absolute personal bests date from after my 30's: My PB in the 400 metres (50.53) was at age 31 and my best in the 400 hurdles at age 33 (53.31). I did not age quickly, so I managed to keep my results very close to these personal bests. In 2017 (M47) I managed to run the 400 flat in 51.83 still and in 2023 (M53) I surprised myself running the 400 metres hurdles in 55.99 and not on 83.8, but 91.4cm! Which is under the current World Record and is under approval. Next to 400 metres (with and without hurdles) I have done all track and field events, because I started as a horizontal jumper, enjoyed the javelin, I liked 100 metres, but I liked 10k and 10 Miles as much. That made me start at ten Double Decathlon events (all running and hurdle events 100m-10k, all jumping and all throwing events, in 1 weekend), of which I finished eight with some nice results. As a master, I enjoy Track and Field as much as I did when I was younger. May be even more so due to the great results and the nice tournaments I am able to compete in.

Toine van Beckhoven, NED - M54
